Los Angeles FC delivered a message to all of North America Tuesday night, taking down Cruz Azul 3-0 at BMO Stadium in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinals.
From the first whistle, LAFC looked sharp, confident, and in full control — continuing what is now the best start to a season in club history.
FIRST HALF: LAFC SETS THE TONE
The breakthrough came in the 30th minute when Son Heung-Min ended his goal drought in style. Sliding onto a perfectly timed pass from Mathieu Choinière, Son calmly finished to give LAFC the 1-0 lead.
Just nine minutes later, David Martínez took over.
After powering past a defender, Martínez slotted home LAFC’s second goal to send the Black & Gold into halftime with full momentum and a 2-0 advantage.
⚡ SECOND HALF: MARTÍNEZ TAKES OVER
Martínez wasn’t done.
In the 58th minute, he burst down the left side, showing pace and composure before finishing at the far post to secure his brace and seal the 3-0 victory.
The performance puts him in elite company, joining LAFC legends like Carlos Vela and Denis Bouanga as one of the few players in club history to score multiple goals in a Concacaf match.
DEFENSIVE MASTERCLASS
While the attack stole the headlines, LAFC’s defense continues to be just as impressive.
3 straight clean sheets
356+ minutes without conceding
Only 3 goals allowed in 11 matches this year
This latest shutout marks their eighth clean sheet in 11 games, proving this team is just as dangerous defensively as it is going forward.
BY THE NUMBERS
Record: 9W – 0L – 2D (unbeaten in 2026)
Goal Difference: 27 scored, 3 conceded
Home Form: 6-0-1 with 6 clean sheets
Champions Cup: 4-4-0 all-time vs Liga MX sides
Current streak: 11 games unbeaten (club record)
LAFC is rolling.
The job isn’t finished yet.
LAFC heads to Mexico for the second leg on April 14 at Estadio Cuauhtémoc, where Cruz Azul will look to respond in front of their home crowd.
Before that, LAFC shifts focus back to MLS action with a road matchup against the Portland Timbers this Saturday.
This wasn’t just a win — this was a statement.
LAFC didn’t just beat Cruz Azul… they controlled them. From Son breaking his drought to Martínez announcing himself on the big stage, this team looks locked in on a deep Champions Cup run.
If they carry this form into Mexico, it’s going to take something special to stop them.
And right now… nobody looks close.
